Going Green
Along with the major expansion of Swedesboro Animal Hospital and the addition of Tri-State Animal Emergency Center came a real focus on how to do everything we could to respect the environment as well as build a building that would be as energy efficient as possible. Consideration for our environment and efficient use of our energy resources went into every stage of our planning.
Here’s a list of some of the things we’ve thought about:
- Superior Walls were used in our basement. These basement walls come pre-insulated and are super efficient
- High R-Factor Insulation in our exterior walls
- Renewable wood resources
- Inside materials that reduce interior air pollution
- A water filter and purification system
- Energy efficient windows and the use of natural light when possible (efficient skylights)
- Energy Efficient Lighting Fixtures
- Energy Efficient Bathroom Fixtures
- Energy Efficient Appliances (we do a ton of laundry!)
- A new software system with future plans to go “paperless”
- An extensive “bio-retention” system and septic system offering state-of-the-art efficiency and ground water protection
- A roof solar panel system harvesting solar electricity
- An extensive landscaping and land preservation plan, including planting dozens of new trees and hundreds of plants on the premises.
Being as energy efficient as possible is very important to us. Swedesboro Animal Hospital was originally built with 2X6’s for the outer walls using attic level insulation! Energy conservation has always been a concern for us, even before it became fashionable. We will always continue to do our part to be energy and environmentally responsible.
