Dr. Mark F. Magazu, Chairman
Growing up in a large military family, Dr. Mark Magazu spent his childhood living all over the United States and even lived outside the country when duty called. His roots were always in southern New Jersey however, and today his parents and all six brothers and sisters live in this area. After attending college at The United States Military Academy at West Point and Rutgers University, Dr. Magazu went on to attend and graduate from Veterinary School in Europe. He then taught radiology at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a surgical residency there in 1984. Dr. Magazu has a special interest in orthopedics, and also completed the Advanced Orthopedics Program at The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. After a two-year period working as an associate veterinarian in a private practice in Delaware, Dr. Magazu moved back home to Swedesboro, New Jersey to open up his own hospital. With the help of his mom and dad, they renovated a small TV repair shop in the heart of Swedesboro and proudly named it Swedesboro Animal Hospital. The year was 1986. Four years later, Dr. Magazu bought a home and some land on Kings Highway in Swedesboro. Construction soon started and a new hospital was built and opened in 1992. Swedesboro Animal Hospital has been a fully accredited AAHA Veterinary Hospital every year since it opened here.
Over the past twenty plus years, Dr. Magazu has taken great pride in his steadfast dedication to the community and their pets. He has served on the planning board for Gloucester County Animal Shelter, proudly cared for local police canine units and service dogs, coached little league baseball, soccer, and football, and participated in many youth vocational programs for community schools. Dr. Magazu is married to Carol and they have four children; they also share their home with a multitude of family pets.
Christopher M. Flint, Hospital Director
Mr. Flint came to Swedesboro Animal Hospital as Hospital Director in April of 2005. He spent almost fifteen years in the veterinary industry working as a Territory Manager, Regional Manager, National Sales Manager, Director of Marketing, and Director of Sales, Marketing, and Equipment in the veterinary pharmaceutical distribution industry. Mr. Flint and Dr. Magazu had become good friends over this time, and they decided to partner their efforts and experience and take Swedesboro Animal Hospital to a new level.
“Dr. Magazu and I shared the same vision for a state-of-the-art hospital. The opportunity to use all I had learned in my industry career and partner with Mark, who I have the highest respect for both as a veterinarian and a friend, was too good to be true.”
Mr. Flint is married to Lori, they have two children, Kellsie and Christopher, and they share their house with two dogs, two cats, and one crazy bird.
Dr. Karyn Collier
My interest in veterinary medicine started when I was 8 years old. My dog was hit by a car and his leg was fractured. My parents took him to Dr. Robert Warren of Warren Animal Hospital in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. He repaired the leg and my dog went on to live a nice long life. I decided at the time that I wanted to become a veterinarian.
I received a BS in Biology from Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, Mississippi, and went on to attend Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1993. I worked at a 24 hour emergency hospital right after graduating. I joined the staff of Swedesboro Animal Hospital in 1997.
I enjoy getting to know clients and caring for your pets. I always want to provide for them the type of veterinary care that I want my pets to receive. My area of special interest is reproductive medicine. I’ve got 3 dogs – two Burnese Mountain Dogs and one mutt.
I am married to Calvin L. Fisher, Jr., and we have three children. We have lived in Woolwich Township, New Jersey, since 1998.
Kelli Smith, Head Surgical Technician
I have been a Veterinary Technician for over fifteen years, and have worked at Swedesboro Animal Hospital for almost ten years. I have loved animals ever since I was a little girl and love to be involved with them everyday. I gravitated to surgery because I found this part of veterinary medicine fascinating. We do a lot of different surgeries here at SAH, and I especially love to be involved with orthopedics. I have four horses, three dogs, one cat and a brand new daughter named Reagan.
